Hello everyone,

My name is Bey Brad and I'm the director of the World Beyblade Organization. For those of you who've never heard of us, we're a fan-run organization dedicated to the promotion and competitive sanctioning of Beyblade all over the world. Smile

A lot of our members are from Sydney and we're thinking that we could get a pretty decent turnout for a Beyblade event there. We have several volunteers who would be willing to organize an event at Animania in Sydney. You can check out our thread for it here:

http://worldbeyblade.org/Thread-Australian-Members-Check-in

So, would anyone be interested in seeing this happening? We currently have five events scheduled at anime conventions this year. Help us make it a sixth, Animania!

while sounding like an interesting concept,
there would be a few concerns
A) Beyblade is unfortunately not as much of a popular thing anymore.
B) Space at the con - even though we had more space last year, there were still spacial concerns. at least to my mind.
C) public liability if a metal-ringed beyblade flies off and smacks someone in the head

otherwise, I think it's an interesting idea. unfortunately, in terms of an event as well... if, for example, you decided to turn it into a tournament or something. 1) it'd probably be over fairly quickly. 2) it's probably be more "who can spend the most money to get the higher quality parts" cos if they use the newer beyblades with the metal rings, they'll slaughter the older plastic ones.

I'd come by to at least take a look if you were there though.

To address your concerns,

A) You'd be surprised. While certainly not as popular as it was in its heyday, Beyblade still has an incredibly loyal following. Beyblade has started up again in Japan and is doing incredibly well, and next year Beyblade will be launching all over the world. Also, this game still has tremendous appeal to newcomers! We'd be willing to provide Beyblades for newcomers to use.

B) Well, that would be something to discuss with convention officials.

C) Beyblade isn't a dangerous game. They don't fly that far, the metal edges are not sharp and there are stadium guards that can be used to prevent such a thing from occurring. They generally just roll across the floor.

I've run Beyblade tournaments many times at many conventions and they tend to last 1-2 hours. Combine that with a strategy and overview presentation and free battling stations and you have quite a substantial event. As for the newer Beyblades, yes, new Beyblades are stronger than old ones, but how is this different from any other hobby? In card games, you need to buy new cards to stay competitive. In the Pokemon video games, you have to play the new games to compete. All hobbies work like this. Nonetheless, you don't have to spend much money to be competitive in Beyblade, and as we said, we'd be able to provide Beyblades to people. Our main interest is sharing Beyblade with as many people as we can and showing them how much fun it is!

Have you contacted Animania about it?

Note: The forum isn't an official point of contact with Animania staff. The people here are just the attendees.

I would hope that the Animania staff do browse here ... nonetheless, I have contacted them.

This is the first news I've heard as I haven't received any correspondence so far, then again I'm not the most appropriate person within Animania to contact regarding up and coming events. I strongly recommend contacting staff via the Contact Us form on our website, although I have forwarded this thread and your relevant information to the rest of the organising committee.

Hi Muki, thanks for your response!

I sent a message via that page some time ago and have yet to receive a response.

Sorry to revive a dead thread but I wouldn't mind playing this again. Me and some mates use to play this 7 years ago for fun and use to yell out stupid catch phrases for our attacks like "crazy jesus hobo scratching his butt attack" it was hilarious and fun. We used my mates mothers bird bath bowl it was deep and smooth we just had to take out the statue in it good times.

Just curious the bey blades you will be giving out are they going to be the new ones or old ones and second do we get to keep them and what about the launchers? What do they look like because I remember the old ones and they were crap.

Guys we plane to (if accepted) try and host a tournament at Animania this year. So I hope this turns out well, even though it's a while to go ...

Do you mean you've asked to hold a beyblade tournament of the higher ups or you just plan on doing it at animania with little to no prior warning, minus this thread?

We are going to ask Animania for this year. Obviously we can't just show up at Animania and expect them to let us have our own area.
